What is Reiki?
Reiki is nothing new. We all do it to some extent. Laying our hands on the shoulder of a friend who is grieving. Holding our chest while breathing through anxiety. Covering our eyes when we feel over-stimulated by our surroundings. Reiki, in short, is a hands-on energy healing practice used to help ease tension, promote relaxation, and clear energetic blocks.
The origin of reiki is rooted in ancient culture- specifically modern reiki, which was founded in the 1900s by Makao Usui. The word “reiki” was derived from the Japanese words rei, meaning “universal,” and ki, which refers to the vital life force energy that flows through all living things.
I was attuned as a Reiki II Practioner in 2017 in Texas, and am honored to bring this simple healing method to Salt Lake City, Utah. I use a hands-on approach, while focusing on the upper body areas during a hair service, specifically the crown area. As the person receiving, you will sit comfortably in a chair or lay back in the shampoo bowl, with eyes closed, while I hold my hands in different positions around your crown, eyes, ears, and shoulders. My role is to act as a conduit to help you release. Thats it. This can be done anywhere, anytime. I will typically burn juniper or sage to help set the intention- but its not necessary. If you are uncomfortable being touched, I can always accommodate by using a hands-off approach. This is a beautiful, non-invasive option for the person who is seeking to feel more grounded or needs a little extrau support through meditation.
